Metalloinvest engineers win professional awards

Engineers at Metalloinvest enterprises are among the best in the country, according to the results of the 17th All-Russia Engineer of the Year competition.
Igor Gridasov, Head of Mikhailovsky GOK Central Technological Laboratory, and Leonid Prokopenko, Senior Specialist at the Ural Steel sheet-rolling and plate rolling facility, won prizes at the competition.
Valery Kudryavtsev, Lebedinsky GOK Head Technician and Sergei Ivanov, Electrician at OEMK Rolling Unit #1, won the first round of the Professional Engineer category and were named the Best Professional Engineers in Russia. Andrey Fomin, a software engineer in the OEMK automation department, was awarded a winner's certificate in the first round of the All-Russia Engineer of the Year competition in the Art of Engineering for Young Specialists category.

Igor Gridasov, a competition winner, played an active role in the testing and commissioning works for Pellet Plant #3 at Mikhailovsky GOK and in the repair work and experimental industrial testing of technological section #14 of the crushing and processing complex, in which concentrate from oxidised quartzite was produced for the first time in Russia using a magnetic flotation process. Leonid Prokopenko, the second prizewinner, has taken part in Ural Steel scientific and technological conferences more than once and was one of the first to implement modern plate rolling technology, which allows for increased output of this product and reduced production times.
Under the management of Valery Kudryavtsev, Lebedinsky GOK specialists have embarked on a collaboration programme with various scientific organisations and institutions with the goal of improving the production process at the entreprise. Sergei Ivanov is the originator of the implementation of modern automation technology at OEMK. He presented thirteen innovation proposals to the competition jury. Andrey Fomin participated in the design of a management system for OEMK heating units, increasing the technological efficiency of the enterprise. The young engineer presented his published scientific papers and articles to the jury.
The All-Russia Engineer of the Year competition has been held since 2000 and over this period has become a very large social project. The competition is organised with the support of the Russian Union of Scientific and Engineering Associations and the A.M. Prokhorov Academy of Engineering Sciences. The aim of the competition is to raise awareness of the issues related to the quality of engineers in Russia, to promote the achievements and experiences of the best engineers in the country and to create interest around engineering among young people.
The award ceremony will take place in Moscow in the Hall of Engineering Glory at the end of February.
