2 June 2017
Metalloinvest has signed a partnership agreement with the organisers of WorldSkills Kazan 2019, the 45th edition of the global professional skills championships, at the 2017 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The participants in the official signing ceremony were Olga Golodets, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation; Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan; Andrey Varichev, CEO of Management Company Metalloinvest; Robert Urazov, Director of the 'Young Professionals' Union (WorldSkills Russia), a development agency for professional communities and industrial workers; and Vladimir Leonov, Minister for Youth Affairs and Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan and a member of the Organising Committee of WorldSkills Kazan 2019.
Olga Golodets commented: "Metalloinvest is the first partner of WorldSkills 2019, which gives special significance to the championships. This illustrates the business elite's high level of interest in the global championships for blue-collar professions, as today the efficient and successful development of our country's economy depends on our industrial workers being well-trained. 77 countries are currently taking part in WorldSkills and the battle to become world champion in Kazan will not be easy. We performed well in the last European championships in Gothenburg: Russia came first in the medals table. Winning the World Championships is now our main goal, and we will put every effort into achieving victory.
Rustam Minnikhanov noted: "The main challenge facing us is to represent Russia well at WorldSkills Kazan 2019, but in order to do this, we need to work, work and work again. Today, we gained our first partner, a leading Russian company whose founder Alisher Usmanov is a friend of the Republic of Tatarstan. Metalloinvest has taken part several times already in many of our social projects, and today we have taken a step towards WorldSkills, because our competitiveness depends on the availability of highly-qualified workers."
Andrey Varichev remarked: "Participating in such a large-scale event as WorldSkills Kazan 2019 is a real challenge and a great responsibility for us as a Company with more than 54,000 employees, most of whom work in blue-collar professions. Increasing the standards and improving the qualifications of our engineering and technical staff, as well as the quality of our educational institutions, which are oriented towards preparing employees to work at our production facilities, is a strategically important undertaking for Metalloinvest. Reaching a new level of technical development is the main aim of today's forum."
Robert Urazov observed: "Our strategic aims are aligned with those of Metalloinvest. Forming a partnership with such an industry-leading company signifies that Russia’s largest companies view training the next generation of workers as the key to the creation of the new economy."
