Ural Steel begins procedure for certification of energy management systems in line with global standards

5 March 2018

Ural Steel (part of Metalloinvest) has successfully passed a diagnosis audit to check its energy management system for compliance with the ISO 50001 international standard. Experts from PRONAP+ conducted the audit and gave a high assessment of the development of the enterprise's energy management system.

Irina Demakova, an expert from PRONAP+, noted: "Ural Steel has carried out a significant amount of high-quality work to begin the creation of its energy management system. We have analysed the information and documentation presented to us by the enterprise's specialists and reviewed it for compliance with the requirements of ISO 50001. Over the course of the week, based on the results received, we will compile a report and give ourrecommendations on the implementation of ISO 50001 at Ural Steel."

The enterprise will carry out wide scale work this year in advance of the certification audit of its energy management system for compliance with the ISO 50001 international standard.

Following the system’s successful implementation, Ural Steel will receive energy management certification from TÜV International Certification, the international certification body.

Sergey Scherbina, Director of the Department of Energy and Energy Resources, Management Company Metalloinvest, commented: "The energy management system is being implemented at all Metalloinvest enterprises to ensure the efficient management of energy resources. The first enterprise to successfully implement the energy management system compliant with the ISO 50001 standard was OEMK. In addition to Ural Steel, both Lebedinsky GOK and Mikhailovsky GOK will prepare for certification this year. Ensuring our current energy management systems meet international requirements will help us to operate efficiently and reduce our energy consumption. These are important conditions for increasing efficiency and reducing the cost of production. The international certification of our enterprises will be another competitive advantage of the Company.”

Note for Editors:

At present, within the framework of the existing integrated management system, Ural Steel has received certification for its quality management system, occupational health and safety management system, and environmental management system.
