Metalloinvest conducts corporate seminar on industrial, environmental and professional safety
26 October 2018
Representatives of all Metalloinvest enterprises participated in the 8th annual seminar on industrial, environmental and professional safety. The meeting took place at Ural Steel.
Managers and specialists responsible for health and safety, industrial and environmental safety at Lebedinksy GOK, Mikhailovsky GOK, OEMK, Ural Steel and Ural Scrap Company discussed current issues around industrial safety and shared knowledge and experience of preventative measures to minimise injuries at the enterprises.
The main topic discussed at the seminar was legislative innovation and governmental requirements around professional, industrial and environmental safety.
The results of implemented monitoring activities, measures to roll out recommended plans and programmes, the expertise of state monitoring bodies as well as events aimed at mitigating risks were examined during the seminar.
Evgeny Polessky, Director of the Department for government relations, environmental management and urban planning, who was moderating the meeting, said: “Issues around professional, industrial and environmental safety are a priority for managers of the enterprises and the Management Company. For the next four years, the key objective for our enterprises will be obtaining comprehensive environmental licences that will enable us to introduce new environmental standards and install automatic control systems to stationary emission equipment and improve the qualifications of specialists in line with new regulatory requirements.”
Participants of the seminar concluded that within the reporting period, all Metalloinvest enterprises carried out a significant amount of work to find solutions around professional, industrial and environmental safety. Systematic work continues to minimise accidents, occupational injuries and professional diseases. The priority remains to create a health and safety culture and increase the personal responsibility of each employee for his or her life and health.
Participants of the event remarked that there was a notable reduction in human impact on the environment at all Metalloinvest enterprises. In the last ten years, Ural Steel successfully decreased emissions levels by a factor of three. As a result, by commissioning of a modernised waste gas treatment system, the electric steel-making plant OEMK halved gross emissions from steel-smelting furnaces, reduced the dust concentration in exhaust gases by more than 3 times, and decreased the dust content in steelworker areas on average by half. Activities aimed to protect the environment resulted in an 85% reduction in the level of dust in the air at Lebedinsky GOK. Actions have been taken to reduce emissions levels at Mikhailovsky GOK. Following all the actions undertaken, Metalloinvest’s environmental footprint remains well below the state approved environmental limits.
