27 June 2019

Metalloinvest is the official partner and participant of the 8th Central Russian Economic Forum (CEF), which is taking place in Kursk on 26-27 June.

The theme of the forum is “Digital Region”. This year, the CEF has collected more than 2500 participants from 23 countries: representatives of organisations, businesses, scientists, social organisations and investors.

Andrey Varichev, CEO of Management Company Metalloinvest, participated in the forum’s plenary discussion.

Andrey Varichev commented: “The history of Metalloinvest’s development is undeniably linked with the Central region of Russia. We are focused on the long-term sustainable development of the towns that are home to the miners and steelmakers of our Mikhailovsky GOK, Lebedinsky GOK and OEMK enterprises. It is important that the implementation of new technologies and digital platforms create highly qualified workplaces, give people new knowledge, create conditions for growth in the quality of education and development of human capital.”

At the forum, Metalloinvest presented its experience in the adoption of digital technologies in management and production. Currently, the Company is undertaking the Industry 4.0 business transformation programme. This programme will take its management system to the next level, while increasing the Company’s competitive advantage. Digital solutions enable increased operational and management efficiency, mobilise hidden resources, improve product quality, and open up new models of collaboration with customers.

As part of the discussion Andrey Varichev noted that the digital technology being implemented at the Company’s enterprises ensures not only growth of product efficiency while also helping to make the work of miners and steelmakers safer and more comfortable.

Mikhailovsky GOK (a Metalloinvest enterprise in the Kursk region) implements computer technology for mining surveying and geological modelling. A digital model of the depth of the open-pit mine has been constructed, and modern technology has been used to provide the support and updates to the model. A Modular system has been implemented, allowing improved productivity of the mining equipment, and automated management system of bore works, using highly accurate positioning of bore stations with the help of GLONASS.

Currently, Mikhailovsky GOK is re-equipping its radio communications system. A multiservice network using LTE technology has been created for this.

To ensure the visual control of production processes and increase the level of occupational safety in the mine, the Company set up a video monitoring system via fibre optic communications lines. This allows a remote control of explosions in the mine and the mining equipment on production areas.

The high operational and production achievements of Metalloinvest allow to successfully solve socio-economic problems in the region. As part of the three-sided agreement between Metalloinvest and the Kursk administration and the Zheleznogorsk administration, important social projects are being built, and major projects are being undertaken aimed at increasing residents’ quality of life. Metalloinvest is the largest tax payer in the Kursk region. In total in 2018, the Company’s enterprises paid RUB 10 bn in taxes to the regional treasury.
