Metalloinvest supports the “Siberia, we’re with you” initiative

4 September 2019

Metalloinvest supported the “Siberia, we’re with you” initiative aimed at putting out forest fires in the Siberian regions of Russia. The Company provided financial aid to the non-profit organisation Volunteer Corps of Baikal to help overcome the consequences of this natural disaster, as well as for accident prevention.

Thus, Metalloinvest, together with Russia’s largest companies, joined the initiative to regenerate the Siberian taiga. One of several measures chosen to fight the fires was providing support to local volunteer groups who aid the forest guard and who are the first to arrive at the scene of forest fires.

The following activities are planned throughout the year as part of the project “Creating a Resource Centre for fire volunteering in Siberia and the Far East”: arranging field visits by employees of the Volunteer Corps of Baikal and volunteers to extinguish fires in Buryatia and the Irkutsk Oblast; carrying out work to prevent and eliminate the consequences of fires and emergencies; development of charity work and volunteering; supporting citizens’ environmental volunteer initiatives; running awareness campaigns for forest fire prevention; and conducting classes with schoolchildren.

Sustainable development is an integral part of Metalloinvest’s long-term strategy and is essential to the Company’s competitiveness. Its charity programmes aim to create a prolonged and sustainable effect. Metalloinvest's total investment in external social programmes in 2018 amounted to 5.3 bn roubles. The Company's work in the field of environmental and labour protection has received high independent ratings. In 2018, Metalloinvest received its first ever CSR rating at the level of ‘Silver’ from EcoVadis, the international independent rating agency.
