First graduates from NUST MISiS mining faculty supported by Metalloinvest receive engineering diplomas

Fifteen graduates from the mining faculty of the Stary Oskol branch of the National University of Science and Technology MISiS received their diplomas on 10 February 2017. The facul ty was built in 2016 with support from Metalloinvest, as well as other industrial enterprises in the region such as Stoilensky GOK and KMAruda. In order to ensure the successful development of this field of studies, a Co-ordination Committee was created, which was led by Oleg Mikhailov, Managing Director of Lebedinsky GOK and a Deputy in the Belgorod Regional Duma.
Diplomas were also presented to mining students from the Gubkin branch of the Moscow State University of Mechanical Engineering who continued their studies at the Stary Oskol branch of the National University of Science and Technology MISiS following the closure of the Gubkin institution.
Vasily Rassolov, Director of NUST MISiS in Stary Oskol, commented: “The first graduation ceremony for our miners is an important and historic event for this institution. Mining students from Gubkin were able to successfully continue their education, maintain the same path and not give up on their dream.”
With the opening of the new faculty and mining department, students from Gubkin were able to continue their studies and receive a mining qualification in five specialisations, including: Mineral Processing; Open Pit Mining; Mining Machinery and Equipment; Underground Mining Development; and Electrification and Automation of Mining Operations.
Addressing the graduates, Oleg Mikhailov, said: “Today, you have become our fully-fledged colleagues. We place great hope in you. We expect you to become leaders and advanced technical specialists. It is wonderful that we now have our own local graduates.”
Taking into account the needs of the region’s leading industrial enterprises and Lebedinsky GOK in particular, as of 1 September 2017, the mining department of the Stary Oskol branch of the National University of Science and Technology MISiS will be relocated from Stary Oskol to Gubkin, in the building of the town’s institute located on Komsomolskaya Ulitsa.
Alexey Kozhukhov, Dean of mining faculty, commented: “We want to become the very centre of the Black Earth Region that will train high-level specialists for mining enterprises in our region. Thanks to the support of the mining and processing plants, we have unique training facilities for students and teacher training. Metalloinvest provides a huge amount of support to improve out resources. In addition, a new bus was recently donated to carry teachers and students from Stary Oskol to Gubkin, where the faculty will soon start work. We are very grateful to the company for providing funds to support their future specialists.”Back
