Metalloinvest hosted its second Corporate Winter Sports competition. The event brought together over 250 participants who made up seven teams from the Management Company, Lebedinsky GOK, Mikhailovsky GOK, OEMK, Ural Steel, UralMetCom and Rudstroy. Participants competed in six kinds of sport: Russian hockey in felt boots, ice hockey, skiing races, curling, skating and biathlon.
This year, the sports competition was hosted at Lebedinsky GOK and the miners and steelworkers’ competitions took place at the recreation centre ‘Lesnaya Skazka’ and the ‘Crystal’ sports palace. The competition’s opening ceremony took the form of a sporting celebration with the lighting of a torch and an impressive performance from figure skaters and drummers on the ‘Crystal’ palace ice arena. On the same day, hundreds of fans were able to watch Company employees take part in skating, as well as hockey and curling matches.
Addressing the participants, Andrey Varichev, CEO of Management Company Metalloinvest, commented: “It is remarkable that apart from being masters of your trade, you are real and professional sportsmen. I am sure that the corporate spirit that dwells among the participants of our sporting competition will continue to grow and will help to create a healthy environment of kindness, friendship and mutual support. Continue reaching for the stars, aspire for victory and achievements in sports and work.”
Alexander ‘Yak – 15’ Yakushev, the Soviet hockey star, was an honoured guest at the event and avidly followed the final hockey match. He personally participated in the awards ceremony for competitors and signed autographs.
Biathletes, skiers and hockey players in felt boots were competing for victory at the ‘Lesnaya Skazka’ sports ground. An entertainment programme with a barbecue, disco and husky dog sledging was organised at the recreation complex. On the final day of the sports competition, Alexander Legkov, a Russian skier and Sochi 2014 Olympic champion, led the morning warm-up exercises for participants and spoke about his experience of winning medals.
Alexander Legkov said: “Thank you for inviting me and thank you for supporting us and supporting skiing. This is a great competition.
