History

1940 – Establishment of Orsk-Khalilovo Integrated Iron-and-Steel Works built upon the base of a naturally alloyed iron ore deposit.

1955 – Blast furnace No.1 produced first ever pig iron.

1958 – Open-hearth furnace No.1 produced first ever steel.

1960 – 2800-mm rolling mill was put into operation.

1962 – 1250-mm (blooming) reduction mill was put into operation.

1969 – 950/800-mm section rolling mill was put into operation.

1978 – 800–mm wide strip universal rolling mill was in operation

1981 – First Electric arc furnace was put into operation.

1992 – The state-owned Orsk-Khalilovo Integrated Iron-and-Steel Works was converted into Open-type Joint Stock Company “Nosta”.

2002 – foundation of LLC "Ural Steel".

2004 – Continuous casting machine No.2 was put into operation.

2005 – LLC Ural Steel was converted into Joint Stock Company Ural Steel (JSC Ural Steel).

2006 – The authorities of the sole executive body of JSC Ural Steel were transferred to Management Company METALLOINVEST LLC

2007
- The Quality Management System of Ural Steel was certified to function in accordance with International Standards in the system of “Transcert”.
- Ural Steel confirmed the right to produce hull steel in accordance with the requirements of the Rules for Classification and Construction of ships, floating drilling units and permanent offshore platforms.
- Two–position ladle-furnace manufactured by “SMS Demag” Company was put into operation for complex treatment of steel.
- The Environmental Management System of Ural Steel was confirmed to function in accordance with the requirements of International Standard ISO 14001:2004
- Ural Steel was awarded the silver medal of VII Moscow World Salon of innovations and investments for development of new steel grades: UralCB-1 (for Ural Steel high strength) and K60.
- The first stage of modernization of main line of 2800-mm rolling mill was completed.
- The Quality Management System and the products of Ural Steel were certified for the conformity to the requirements of International Standard ISO 9001:2000 and European Directives 97/23/ЕС and 89/106/ЕС.
- Ural Steel became the first enterprise in Russian steel industry to successfully apply the Kyoto protocol mechanisms for reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases.

2008
- Passed ISO 9001:2001 Quality Management System.
- Launched modernized rolling mill 2,800 and electric arc furnace with the annual design capacity of 1 million tons of steel.

2009
- Ural Steel wins three awards at METALEXPO 2009.
- Passed Gazprom STO 9001-2006 conformance certification.

2010
- Ural Steel  (jointly with Central Scientific Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy (TsNIIchermet)) awarded with the golden medal and the laureate title of the “Metal Expo-2010” exhibition for mastering the production of strips of the К52-К60 strength class on the reconstructed smelting and rolling facilities.
- Ural Steel  (jointly with Central Scientific Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy (TsNIIchermet)) awarded with the silver medal and the laureate title of “Metal Expo-2010” exhibition for mastering the production of 29.3 mm thick sheet from steel of the X70 strength class for electric-welded pipe production.
