Alexey Ugarov OEMK ships first batch of 100 mm grinding balls from ball rolling facility

Alexey Ugarov OEMK (part of Metalloinvest) shipped the first batch of 100 mm diameter steel grinding balls to Lebedinsky GOK.

Dmitry Koshelev, Project Manager of the Ball Rolling Facility at Alexey Ugarov OEMK, said: The ball rolling facility has launched production of the previously announced product types, namely 100 mm and 120 mm diameter grinding balls. The next goals for our enterprise are to reach the production capacity of 43,000 tonnes of rolled steel grinding balls per year and to develop new product types."

Sergey Nemykin, Chief Engineer of Lebedinsky GOK, commented: "The delivery of grinding balls from our Stary Oskol-based colleagues is a significant event for our enterprise. We will no longer have to rely on external suppliers, but will rather receive grinding balls of the highest hardness groups made from Metalloinvest steel and, most importantly, we will have complete confidence in the quality of our products."

The official opening of OEMKs ball rolling facility took place this October. Metalloinvest's investment in the project was in the amount of approximately 1 bn roubles. Key technological equipment was supplied by Chinese engineering company WISDRI.

OEMK produces grinding balls with a diameter of 100 mm and 120 mm, weighing 4.6 and 8 kg, and of 2nd and 3rd hardness groups in accordance with GOST 7524-2015.

Transitioning to OEMK-produced grinding balls will reduce iron ore production costs at Lebedinsky GOK and Mikhailovsky GOK as a result of optimised delivery logistics, reduced transportation costs and a guaranteed production quality.
