Metalloinvest presents innovative solutions for metals and mining at the Innoprom International Fair
6 April 2021
Metalloinvest, a leading global iron ore and HBI producer and supplier, and one of the regional producers of high-quality steel, is participating in the Innoprom International Industrial Fair, held on April 5-7 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
During the ‘Global industrial production in the wake of growth drivers’ strategic session, Nazim Efendiev, CEO of Management Company Metalloinvest, stated that three key global trends, namely deglobalisation, decarbonisation and digitalisation, will determine the development of the global metals industry in the coming decades.
The new challenges of 2020 have reinforced these trends, as the number of various trade restrictions increases, while digitalisation of manufacturing has become a prerequisite for business competitiveness.
The need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions now informs the direction of the metals industry worldwide.
Nazim Efendiev said: "Steel production in electric arc furnaces is on the rise. Steel production from HBI/DRI using this method results to much lower CO2 emissions compared to the classic blast furnace-converter technology. Our Company is the global leader in the production of merchant HBI. The new HBI plant in the Kursk region, with a capacity of 2 mn tonnes, is designed with the possibility of fully transitioning to green hydrogen as a reducing agent. This project will pave the way for the development of green metallurgy and the transition of the global industry to environmentally friendly steel production technologies.”
Metalloinvest's exposition at USM's joint stand showcases the digital solutions that are being implemented at the Company's production sites.
These include ‘digital quarry’, an analytical reporting and visualisation tool for the mining company; a neural network for monitoring the wearing of personal protective equipment and hazardous areas; predictive analytics system for industrial equipment; work intensity monitoring using digital bracelets; Mobile Maintenance and Repair, a hardware-software solution for equipment maintenance and repair; and an automated system for alcohol control.
The ‘Innoprom. Big Industrial Week in Uzbekistan’ International Industrial Trade Fair aims to expand industrial cooperation with Central Asian countries, identify new points of industrial development, establish and strengthen business contacts, and create new joint ventures.
Innoprom participants include government officials and 300 major companies from Russia, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, France and other countries.
Industries represented include metals and mining, mechanical engineering, energy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and medical products.
More than 15 sessions are scheduled during the exhibition, covering international cooperation, exports, investments and development of advanced manufacturing.
