New dump cars at Lebedinsky GOK to increase rock mass removal from open pit mine by 800,000 tonnes per year
16 April 2021
Lebedinsky GOK (part of Metalloinvest) expanded its transport fleet with 11 special-purpose dump cars for the transportation and automated unloading of rock mass. These are the first of 44 cars scheduled for delivery to the enterprise this year. In total, the increase in rock mass shipment as a result of the fleet renewal will amount to up to 800,000 tonnes per year.
The loading capacity of the new cars is 115 tonnes, representing a 10-tonne increase over the previous model. In addition, modern engineering solutions have made it possible to increase the car body volume by 5 m3, while maintaining the existing dimensions.
Improving the efficiency of the enterprise's mining transport division, including through fleet upgrades, enables annual increases in rock mass haulage capacity and ore supply to the enterprise. In 2020, Lebedinsky GOK produced a record amount of concentrate, at over 22 mn tonnes.
Evgeny Dementyev, Head of the Rail Transport Department at Lebedinsky GOK, commented: "Today, the rail transport department's fleet includes 51 traction units and 602 dumper trucks. Every day, over 100,000 m3 of rock mass is removed from the open-pit mine by railway."
Since 2017, Lebedinsky GOK has received more than 200 units of high-performance equipment as part of Metalloinvest's investment programme to modernise the enterprise's mining transport division. These include 8 excavators with a bucket volume between 12 to 25 m3, 21 heavy-duty dump trucks with a capacity of 220 tonnes, 3 drilling rigs, 185 dump cars, 4 traction units.
